Here at The Brand Depot we love working with entrepreneurs who have a great business idea! Cartel Food Company spotted a gap in the market for premium quality frozen convenience food and The Brand Depot was asked to create a contemporary brand and packaging concept for Cartel's Mexican burrito range. The company wanted the emphasis to be on taste and adventurous flavours, and to challenge market leaders in the frozen category with a design that
amplified their brand offering.




The Brand Depot disrupted the frozen category by moving away from using
conventional product photography. Instead, the packaging was designed to make
use of strong bold colours and textures that emphasised taste; a visual impression
of spicy flavours. The design took a modern twist on Mexican graphics
and consciously avoided the tired cliches that are frequently used.

The result is an eye catching brand that uses maximum taste appeal and strong
individuality to connect with consumers. We guided Cartel on use of language to
consolidate the branding, and creatively used the packaging design elements across various
touchpoints in order to further engage the brand with consumers.






"The Brand Depot were excellent to deal with. They really understood our brief for the brand and what we wanted to achieve. Subsequently they created a bold brand that had the attitude we wanted. We started trading in May 2015 in two high end-grocery stores. After seven months we are now supplying thirty supermarkets, with more coming on board weekly. We are also in the process of working with both major supermarket brands to be ranged nationally within the next six months which is a major achievement after such little time in the market."
